Staff Development aims to promote and support an emerging learning culture that enhances individual and institutional capability. The Staff Development Unit supports the development of all staff across the four campuses of the University and is responsible for the administration of a number of University developmental schemes, including Developmental Appraisal Review and Continuing Professional Development. Staff Development offer a range of programmes suitable for all members of staff in the University. Our programmes illustrate our continued commitment to support all staff in carrying out their roles.
The “Training” area within the new CoreHR Portal is now live, and members of staff who wish to attend any of our training courses should use this facility, available through the Employee Self Service link on the Portal, to book onto training courses. Guidance on using this new system is available here. Please note that managers will not receive an automated notification to approve course applications, so you need to inform your manager that you have applied for a Staff Development training course and ask them to approve your application.

Staff Development is tasked by the University with supporting the development of all staff. The Head of Staff Development and the Professional Development Managers are responsible (along with line managers) for the identification of need, design and delivery of developmental activities.
